The Experiment

The Experiment is a collaboration with Lebanese visual artist Simon Mhanna, who will be creating his largest-scale painting to date in celebration of the one year anniversary of the gallery.

The upcoming exhibition of Mhanna draws inspiration from and combines both performance art and commercial exhibitions.

Starting at 6 pm, the artist will create his painting in front of an audience on a tailored wall to wall canvas covering the entire showroom. The live audience will witness Mhanna painting on over 35 canvases over the period of three hours to create a unique body of work that upon completion will be dismantled and disseminated.

Taking place in one location in a single day and with all the actions furthering the work itself adheres to Aristotle’s 3 unities, those of place, time and action.
The unities written about by Aristotle in his book Poetics, were for eons considered the rules to follow for any tragic dramatic work.

The final work is also meant to try and capture a fleeting moment in time and space that leaves behind only a memory of the actual event on the canvases which remain after the artist has left.
