MENART FAIR | Brussels- Fondation Boghossian

This exhibition stems from the desire to pay homage to the influential Lebanese women in our society who have empowered us throughout our lives.

“I see me in you”, is a phrase commonly uttered by parents in Lebanese households. It can be interpreted as both praise and a literal reflection of one female figure in another.

Yasmina Hilal, the artist behind this exhibition, photographed seven women in their 20s, each adorned in clothing items belonging to their mother, aunt and/or grandmother. The photo shoots took place in their respective homes, with Hilal herself participating in one of the shoots, wearing her mother’s wedding dress, and in another, her grandmother’s dress in her grandmother’s home.

This carefully curated exhibition tells the story of inter-generational relationships through collage works that disrupt and challenge conventional notions of womanhood and beauty, offering alternative perspectives on how they can be perceived.
